Megan Vincent is doing her PH.D at Dalhousie University. As part of her studies, she is testing a new computerized tool called the DalCab that measures attention. The goal is to test this tool to learn about aspects of attention of the average adult.
Knowing this, Megan and team will compare the attention to learn more about which aspects of attention someone with MS or lupus struggle with and hopefully design treatments to help them improve these areas.
Megan needs to test about 50 adults and would appreciate if any club members would be open to participating.

Earlier this year, Rotary and Phoenix Youth partnered to send 12 youth from the Mulgrave Park Phoenix Youth Community Centre to Ottawa for a week-long summer trip. The trip was designed to provide learning, leadership and recreation opportunities and to leverage some of the Ottawa Rotary Club's expertise with their Rotary Adventure in Citizenship program. In the spring, Rotarian and Phoenix Youth advisors helped the selected youth to plan the detailed agenda for the trip, then the trip happened August 20-24. In appreciation, and continuing the leadership objectives of the project, the youth who attended are giving a presentation on the trip and its impact. Please plan to attend at the Halifax North Memorial Public Library, 2285 Gottingen Street on Thursday, November 8, at 6:00 p.m. Pizza will be served! Finally, thanks to the Rotary Clubs of Dartmouth, Halifax Harbourside and Halifax Northwest; Rotary District 7820; Phoenix Youth; and the youth and their families for making this trip a success. |

Nov. 15, 2018 5:00 p.m. - 11:59 p.m.
We're trying something different this week! ... Individual Rotary members are hosting "mini-meetings" in their homes during the evening of November 15. This will be a nice informal way for people to meet and better get to know others in the club, for discussions to go deeper, and hopefully for members who can't regularly make Friday morning meetings to reconnect. Members (and visiting Rotarians) can register to go to whichever one of the host homes they wish using the Google sign up sheet. If you cannot access the link, please email Alida Campbell. If you can't make Thursday evening, there is a Wednesday and a Friday evening option also.
Note that each gathering is for a specific number of attendees, based on the host and location. The addresses are not shown, but will be sent to you after you sign up for the mini-meeting. There should be space for everyone to attend and we have some back-up hosts, in case we run out of space and need to create some new mini-meetings.

Nov. 16, 2018 7:15 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
Rotary Club of Halifax Harbourside is not meeting the morning of Friday, November 16. Instead, individual Rotarians are hosting a variety of at-home events the evening before, on November 15. We're trying something different for our meeting this week! Individual Rotary members are hosting "mini-meetings" at their homes. Hooray! There will be 5-6 host homes. Each host will determine the exact outline of their event, e.g. time, # of people, food or not, theme/topic, etc. We think this will be a nice informal way for people to meet and better get to know others in the club, for discussion to go deeper, and hopefully for members who can't make Friday morning meetings to reconnect. Members (and visiting Rotarians) can register to go to whichever one of the host homes they wish. We're taking this opportunity in part because the Halifax International Security Forum will be taking place at The Westin on November 16. Good luck and best wishes for a successful 10th annual conference here in Halifax. |

The pair could be Rotarians or friends. Sign up using the Google Doc please. We will be stationed at the exit doors of Costco and will encourage customers to give up their loose change into the Kettle as they leave the building.
